Riverview Casino St. Louis Gets Go Ahead

A plan to build a $350 million casino complex in north St. Louis County near Spanish Lake moved forward as the St. Louis County Planning Commission decided to recommend that the County Council approve the project, proposed for 377 acres east of Riverview Drive, north of Interstate 270 and immediately south of the 4,318-acre Columbia Bottom Conservation Area near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

The commission said that the proposed location along the Mississippi River is close to the interstate and is a “logical location for a casino.”

Still, the commission warned that the project faces engineering challenges because it’s located on a floodplain.

Prior to the commission’s meeting at 6 p.m., residents with the Common Sense Coalition protested the project outside the County Government Administration Building in Clayton, saying it would destroy the local wildlife and cost taxpayers millions in new public services, road improvements and sewers.

Attorney Brad Lakin of LakinChapman LLC and his wife, Hallie Lakin, executive Kenneth Goldstein of Argo Products Co. and real estate investor Julie McDonald are the principals of North County Development LLC, the firm behind the development project.
