A security guard was injured in a robbery at Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark, Gauting on Friday, Johannesburg police said. Inspector Kinnie Steyn said the guard had sustained a cut to his head and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

At around 11:15am, three armed men entered the casino premises and approached two security guards carrying a money case. “They demanded the case from the guards. Then they used a firearm and hit the guard carrying the case on his head,” said Steyn.

The trio grabbed the case and escaped in a getaway Toyota Hilux pick-up carrying six other men. “So in total there were nine suspects,” she said.

They were seen heading in the direction of Sharpeville, no arrests have yet been made but a manhunt had begun, said Steyn.
